The Frederick Douglass Foundation of New York
MANDATORY VACCINE AND DETENTION ARE AN ASSAULT ON RELIGIOUS AND CIVIL LIBERTIES
FDFNY OPPOSES TWO UNCONSTITUTIONAL NYS BILLS
January 4, 2021 Rochester, NY –
The Frederick Douglass Foundation of New York (FDFNY) vehemently opposes two unconstitutional bills in the New York State Assembly as they are an assault on individual religious and civil liberties.
The first, the Mandatory Vaccine Bill A11179, provides that regardless of one’s choice and against one’s will, New York State “shall mandate vaccination for all individuals or groups of individuals” deemed “safe” to receive the vaccine.
The second, the Detention Bill A00416, provides the governor the power to “order removal and/or detention” of “carriers of communicable diseases who are potentially dangerous to the public health.”
Individually these bills are beyond dangerous. Together, they reek of Soviet style forced compliance. Under the guise of Covid-19, or any future “emergency” order, complete and unlimited power will be consolidated solely in the hands of the governor which is repugnant to the New York and US Constitutions and should be abrogated immediately. We want to ensure any plotting to get movement on these bills is stopped in its tracks. That means we must apply continuous education and pressure our Reps and communities.
The New York State Constitution proclaims we are, “Grateful to Almighty God for our Freedom,” yet these bills do not secure the blessings of freedom but instead deny them.
Ayesha Kreutz, President, FDFNY, makes clear these bills are a violation of our religious and civil liberties in the following three ways:
1. The absence of informed consent and freedom of choice
2. The extreme impact on black, brown, disabled, senior and poor communities
3. The violation of the right to bodily autonomy
